James "Jim" E. Bums, 80 years old, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012. He was bom May 21, 1932 in Sardis, Mississippi. Mr. Bums, a retired Air Force veteran, came to the Gulf Coast in 1970 to accept employment with Ingalls Shipbuilding. He retired from Ingalls in the spring of 1994. He was a member of the Pascagoula Country Club, Mississippi National Golf Club, American Legion (Post 160), Pascagoula Elks (BPOE 1120) and the Germania Club of Biloxi. He was of Methodist faith and attended Eastlawn United Methodist Church in Pascagoula. He was a generous and selfless person, who would go out of his way to tend a helping hand. Survivors are his children - Arlene Pettus of Jackson, MS and Doris (Paul) Cloud of The Woodlands, TX, six grandchildren - Josef, Jonathan, Emily and Elliott Pettus and William and Elizabeth Cloud, six great grandchildren - Jackson, Jamison and Canon Pettus and Ellie, Lawson and Anna Pettus, two brothers - Joe Burns and Robert Bums of Memphis, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Ellie and three siblings - Freddie Bums, Elizabeth Burns Stubbs and Sara Alice Burns Finnell. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 11 am at Eastlawn United Methodist Church in Pascagoula, MS, with a visitation at the church at 10am. A graveside service will follow at 12:30pm at the Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS. Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa, MS is in charge of arrangements.
