WOODRUFF, SC - Mr. Oliver Knighton died at the home of his son, Mr. William Miles Knighton, on August 12, 1914, after a long illness. He was survived by his aged wife, four sons, and one daughter. He was laid to rest in Tabernacle cemetery.

Miles Oliver is listed as the son of Thomas Knighton (bc 1790- aft 1860) and (maiden unknown) Elizabeth (bc 1799 - aft 1880)... who were both born in SC and died in SC.
Many try to link Miles to Thomas Cannon Knighton, another Thomas Knighton of the same area, or the Zechariah (not Zachariah) Knighton, who lived to be 100. One family member believes the latter to be true.
Note, however, that Miles Oliver's family was of the Methodist faith, extremely moral, and opposed to alcohol. There is a Thomas Knighton who was expelled from a local church for drinking and had, at least, two wives. We don't believe he is related to this line.
What is known, is my specific family history, in 1860 Miles is living (as a single child, recorded as Oliver) with a Thomas and Elizabeth, both born in SC, and in 1870 he is married to Isabella.
