Ellis Jr., George Matthew A resident of Baker, he died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. He was 85, born May 4, 1919, in Covington, he lived his early years in Roseland, and graduated from Amite High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 1st Division (U.S. Calvary). He retired from Kaiser Aluminum with 35 years of service. He was married for 58 years to Mary Alice Lafield Ellis and was the father of four sons. He was a member of Boilermaker's Union 582 Retirees Club and a member of United Methodist Church in Baker. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years in Baton Rouge and Baker. George was a member of the Baker Volunteer Fire Department. Visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation in the funeral home chapel from 10 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Gene Rives officiating. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park He is survived by his wife; three sons, John Allen of San Diego, and Robert Matthew and Patrick Andrew, both of Baton Rouge; a brother, Cheney Ellis; and sisters, Mildred Dykes and Adda B. Wright; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and special friend, Carolyn Graves. George was known as Uncle Matt to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Alton; parents, George M. Ellis Sr. and Mildred Newman Ellis; two infant sisters; two adult sisters, Claire Heil and Hazel Rose Vernon; and an infant grandson.
