Son of John and Ann Phillis (Weinman) Hosterman.

Thomas Hosterman was a well known and highly respected citizen of Halifax. In 1838 he is noticed among the Justices of the Peace. He was a jeweler and silversmith. He was a partner in business with Nathaniel Parker and his brother-in-law, Benjamin B. Etter.

On 27 Sep 1815, Thomas Hosterman married Eliza Etter, daughter of Benjamin Etter and Mary Besonette. Thomas and Eliza Hosterman were the parents of several children. They lived on the head of the Northwest Arm using the water power from Chocolate Lake to operate the Melville Nail Manufactory and the Melville Iron Foundry with their sons.

Thomas Hosterman was buried on March 27, 1863.
