Mary Harris was the daughter of John and Mary Witt Tooley.
John Tooley is mentioned as one of the first settlers of Missouri Territory in the "Encyclopedia of the History of Missouri" Mary Harris was born in Albemarle County, Virginia. She married William White of Howard County May 20, 1824 in Chariton County, MO and had two children, William White and my gr gr grandmother, Amelia.
In one of the oldest Missouri nespapers is a tidbit and it goes as follows: Chariton County probate records William White, Chariton County Letters of Administration, to John Tooley and Charles P. Tooley in the MIN June 7 1827 newspaper.

John Lee Jones and Mary Harris Tooley White married Jul 13 1828, in Chariton County, MO. The marriage lasted 50 years, The Civil War, and the death of five of her children. John Columbus Jan 4 1863,Amelia White Parks Apr 9 1864, Charles Wesley Apr 19 1864, Celinah Elenor Thompson Jan 28 1865, and Augustus Marion Apr 14 1865.

With as many William Whites there were in Boone & Howard counties, I have not found enough information on anyone of them to pinpoint which one I need to pursue. I found where John L. Jones was guardian to William White under age. I have no further information on Amelia's brother.
John Lee and Mary Harris had one more daughter Jurusha Ann Jones, that I am unable to account for her whereabouts. Jurusha married Samuel L. Haus/Hoss/Haux. She has been a hard one to find anything on. The name Jurusha is so different and spelled so many ways. Researchers find their own way to spell it because they do not know where the name come from, they figure it has to be a mistake so they make up their own interpretation. Census did the same. Even I am not sure I have the correct spelling or if I am consistent in my genealogy program. I have found this named spelled so many different ways. It is a Biblical name.
Jurusha and Samuel are mentioned in History of Howard and Boone Counties. Jurusha was born aprox. 1833 and died before 1883. It puts her in third place of the nine children John Lee Jones speaks of her in his sketch.
Mary Harris out lived her daughter Amelia by 14 years. Mary Harris lost 5 children from 1863-1865. Now that lady had a hard dash to live. More than a mother should have to endure.
