He was the son of John Lee and Mary Harris Tooley Jones. He was half brother to my second great grandmother, Amelia White Parks. He sent my great aunt Cora, Lucy and Violet Parks to school at the Normal Academy for Women. I believe in Kirksville, Adair County, MO.
I suspect his middle name is Harris, but have not found anything proof that.

Aquillas H. Jones, Boone County's most noted philanthropist, died at his home in Hallsville, September 29, age 85 years, 4 months and 17 days after an illness of a few weeks. The deceased was born in Howard County where he lived for several years prior to his coming to Hallsville. Which was about 50 years ago. He was a clerk at Arrow Rock. He came to Hallsville on horseback in company with his brother P. H. Jones. He first sold goods here and later went into the stock business and bought lands with his savings and this way accumulated a large fortune. He had no unusual opportunities for making money. Yet by careful business methods and punctuality he claimed was due to his success. He always made it a point to eat and sleep regularly. If a person made a date to transact business with him at a certain time, he was sure to be there at the very minute and expected the same of the other party. Mr. Jones has been, in deed, liberal with his wealth. He remembered his kinsmen in a substantial way many times. In addition many public institutions have been the recipients of his gifts. The Y. M. C. A. building in Columbia was made possible by a gift of $15, 000.00 and later one of $4.000.00. The Children's Receiving house of St. Louis was founded by him and he contributed liberally to its support. Howard Payne and Central Colleges at Fayette also received his liberal donations. Mr. Jones was never married. He lived a plain, quiet and unassuming life, and while he was eccentric in many ways, yet he had a way of commanding the esteem of those around him. he enjoyed a large acquaintance throughout the county. He took an active interest in politics, and was well posted for a man of his age. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Frank Carson, of Howard county and Mrs. Elizabeth Murry, of Columbia. Funeral services were conducted at the Hallsville Methodist church by Rev. T. P. Hanes and words of eulogy were spoken from representatives of the various institutions of which he was a benefactor as follows: E. W. Stephens of the Y. M. C. A. of Columbia, H. E. Stout, President of Howard Payne College, Fayette; Rev. C. C. Statesman, of the Children's Receiving Home of St. Louis, interment was in the Mt. Zion cemetery east of Hallsville. The active pall bearers were; D. B. Carpenter, T. B. Brown, G. L. Shock, G. H. Dysart, J. C. Roberts, R. P. Price, L. C. Stevenson, R. C. Creed. The honorary pall bearers were; W. H. Carpenter, W. H. Brink, J. T. Mitchell, E. W. Stephins, R. P. Price Sr., Major Evans, W. F. Robinson, W. J. Loren, J. T. Moreland, F. M. Hulen, E. M. Windsor, W. S. Woolfolk, R. M. Flynt, J. W.
