Sister Lioba Marie Brungardt
CONCORDIA — Sister Lioba Marie Brungardt, 88, Concordia, died Friday, June 28, 1996, at St. Mary's Convent, Concordia. Sister Lioba Marie was born Regina Brungardt on May 20, 1908, at Victoria to John and Anna Marie (Vonfeldt) Brungardt.
She was received into the Congregation of Sisters of St. Joseph on March 19, 1927, and received her habit and the religious name of Sister Lioba Marie. She made temporary vows Aug. 15, 1929 and her final vows Aug. 15, 1932. She received an undergraduate degree from St. Joseph on Rio Grande in Albuquerque, N.M., and her master's degree from St. Louis University. She taught in the parochial grade schools and high schools in the Diocese of Salina at Schoenchen, Tipton, Daman, Beloit, Concordia, Manhattan and Junction City. She also served at schools in Michigan, New Mexico and Nebraska. In 1983, she retired to the motherhouse in Concordia before transferring to St. Mary's Convent two years later due to declining health.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Bell and Emma Ubert, both of Hays.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Nazareth Convent Chapel, the Rev. Alfred Wasinger officiating. Burial will be in Convent Cemetery. A Scripture wake will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Nazareth Convent Chapel. Memorials may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund or Apostolic Mission Fund.
