"F. D. Moran Dies At Biloxi Home"

"Captain Francis Delmas (Peter) Moran, 81, believed to be the oldest native citizen in Biloxi, died early this morning at his home on Back Bay near Lameuse street, following a long illness. Mr. Moran was one of the old lankmarks of the city and from him much interesting data was gathered about the early history of Biloxi. He had a keen memory about his early days in Biloxi and was well acquainted with its history. He was a pilot at Ship Island before Gulfport was founded and continued in this work for about 30 years and had been associated with Captain Bellande, Ocean Springs, Captains Louis Llado, Harry Stilphen, Harry James, John Lewis, N. Caillavet, Ernest Desporte, Scarborough and Louis Bowen. He was born in Biloxi, August 2, 1853 and was the husband of Elizabeth Vanderpool. He is survived by the following children: Edwin L., Joseph Ott, A. P. (Jackson county supervisor), V. H. Moran and Mrs. Marianna Young and Mrs. Vera Moran Smith, also two nieces Mrs. Andy Doyle and Mrs. Geo. Marcus and 13 grandchildren. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. from the home, 120 Back Bay, with services by Father McGlade at St. John's church and interment in Biloxi cemetery."
