Mankind Award in 1992 and the Deen Day Smith Humanitarian of the Year Award in 1994. He was the carrier of the torch in the 1996 Olympics. Mr. Brown was an active member of the Statesboro First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Harmony/Fellowship Sunday School Class and had served as a deacon, a chaperone for FBC Children's Ministry and a bus driver for many years. Most of all on Monday, he was the recipient of eternal life by his Heavenly Father. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Nolan and Eula Brown; brothers, Eulas Brown Sr. and A.J. Brown; and his sisters, Bill Conley and Bea Moss.
He leaves behind memories to be cherished by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley Groover Brown of Statesboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Wayne Hagan, Angie and Mike Kearney and Diane and Tommy Wynn, all of Statesboro; a son, Ken Brown of Statesboro; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Bobby Simmons of Rincon and Betty and W.B. Findley of Ellabell; his grandchildren, Alison and Jason McCormick, Brad and Vania Hagan, Alex, John Michael and Eric Kearney, Skyler and Ashley Wynn, Tyson and Parker Wynn and Amber and Sasha Brown; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Statesboro First Baptist Church with Dr. H. William Perry officiating, assisted By Dr. John Waters. Interment will be in the Middleground Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Brown's grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Top Five Club and the Harmony/Fellowship Sunday School Class. Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of the arrangements.
