In his "off time" from Fort Riley he would often spend his time at his sister Maudie's house in Wichita. He and Maudie's husband, Abe, had many good times in Abe's old trailer out back. He was very good to his niece and nephew as well, often times giving them money to spend at the little grocery store across the street and once even giving them the keys to his new Cadillac in jest, not dreaming they would start it up.
He was well known as Sarge by his friends around Wichita and was very popular with the ladies. He had several endeavors also. A bar on North Broadway and a car lot in South Wichita. He is survived by his son George (Buddy) McCoy and his daughter Linda, brothers, Bob and Bill and sister, Evelyn.
