Houston Native Dies in Indiana
Earnest H Pumphrey, Sr., 59, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 16, at his home in New Albany, Indiana. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 19.
He was the son of Jimmy Pumphrey and Cornelia Beard Pumphrey.
He was an employee of the New Albany Street Department, a member of the Parkway Baptist Church, and a World War II veteran.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ruby Whitt; one son, Earnest H Pumphrey, Jr., Clarksville; five daughters, Mrs. Bernice Schuley of Hammond, Ind., and Mrs. Margaret Barkmeyer, Mrs. Joyce Marr, Mrs. Glenda Black and Mrs. Bonnie Jones all of New Albany, Ind.; four brothers, Ed Lee Pumphrey, Emmett Pumphrey, Luther Pumphrey, and Charles Pumphrey, all of Houston, Miss.; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hollingsworth, Big Creek, Miss.; 18 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Military rites were conducted at the graveside at Graceland Memorial Park.
