Our precious father, grandfather, and brother, Orvin George McGavin, 87, of Meridian, Idaho, longtime resident of Idaho Falls, passed away April 13, 2012, at his daughter's home in Meridian of natural causes.

Orvin was born April 16, 1924, in Irwin, Idaho, to George Gee McGavin and Hazel Jeanette Tanner McGavin. He grew up and attended schools in Bonneville County and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Following high school he proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

On February 14, 1946, he married the love of his life, Beatrice Bair, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple on February 14, 1947. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where they raised their children, Wayne, Kenneth, Carl, Beth, and Marcene. Orvin owned and operated First Street Plumbing and Heating Center. Beatrice passed away September 16, 2009.

Orvin was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities over the years. Orvin loved taking care of his family, enjoyed photography, camping with Beatrice, and tolerated yard work because he loved his wife.

He is survived by:
Daughter, Beth (Jim) Waite of Idaho Falls, ID,
Daughter, Marcene (Vance) Campbell of Meridian, ID;
Son, Carl (Kathy) McGavin of Sandy, UT;
Sister, Clara (Jay) Stacey of Idaho Falls, ID,
Sister, Helen Leatham of Idaho Falls, ID,
Sister, Verla Mueller of Idaho Falls, ID;
8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beatrice, two sons Wayne McGavin and Kenneth McGavin, two brothers Wilford McGavin and Glen McGavin, and a sister Wanda Shurtliff.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the Idaho Falls LDS Fox Hollow Ward, 2345 West 17th South, with Bishop Don Dahl officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be next to Beatrice in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.

Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho H
