Solomon was one of nine children born to Andrew Jackson and Catherine (Rogers) Clingaman. He also has a half sister, Catherine Clingaman Hutchinson.
Solomon was named after his maternal grandfather, Solomon Rogers, who is buried in Johnson Cemetery, German Twp, Fulton, Ohio.
