Funeral services for Donald Gerken, age 71, of Needville, TX, are scheduled for 4:00 PM Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Needville United Methodist Church, 8602 Church Street, Needville, TX, with Dr. Tom Bain officiating. Burial will follow at Friedens United Church of Christ Cemetery in Beasley, TX. Visitation will be 5:30- 7:30 PM Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 3103 School Street, Needville, TX. Pallbearers will be Tommy Gerken, Glen Gerken, Allen Gerken, George Redd, Rick White, and M.C. Horelica. Honorary Pallbearers will be Benjamin Thuesen, Butch Harris, Butch Gorka, and Marvin Warncke.
Mr. Gerken was born July 4, 1934, in Beasley, Texas, to Herman Gerken and Ella Kalbow Gerken. He died May 2, 2006, at his residence in Needville. He was retired from Houston Lighting and Power Co. where he was a supervisor for 39 years. Mr. Gerken was a lifelong member of Needville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda Gerken, of Needville, TX; son, Tracy Gerken and wife, Carol, and granddaughters, Kelsey and Lisa of Needville, TX; and son, Mark Gerken and wife, Kathleen, and granddaughters, Shelbie and Haley of Birmingham, AL; stepson, Kreg Soli of Dallas; stepdaughter, Kerin Caka and husband, Keith, of Brookeland, TX; 2 sisters, Ruth Horelica and husband, Marvin, of Sugar Land, TX, and Ella Mae White and husband, Redd, of South Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Ruby Gerken, of Needville, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dolores Stehle, and her husband, Herman; sister, Rena McGinnis, and her husband, Bill; brother, Raymond Gerken and his wife, Effie; and brother, Albert Gerken.
