Obituary from "The Portsmouth Morning" published Tuesday Aug 18, 1925-
"Louis N. Shump, a well known resident of Clifford, Scioto Co., died at 12:50 a.m. Monday after an illness extending over a period of eight months, death being due to complications.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Shump and the following children: John C. of Pittsburgh, Pa., Burchard of Kansas City, Mo., Floyd L. at home, Sherman at home, Everett E. of this city, Mrs. Gertrude McKnight, Pittsburgh, Mrs. Louella Moore of Cleveland, Mrs. Nettie Bell of Cleveland. He also leaves one grandchild at home, Madeline Virginia Shump. Ten other grandchildren and two brothers; Theo Shump of Sciotoville and Henry of Ashland, Ky, and Mrs. Mary Weeks of Sciotoville.
Mr. Shump was married, August 1879 to Miss Nannie A. Williams of Ironton. He spent two years at the Baldwin-Wallace College. Before going to this college he attended school on the Little Scioto. He was a loyal and active member of the Men's Bible Class of Trinity M.E.Church and resided here until a year ago.
The funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Daehler FUneral Home, the last rites to be in charge of Rev. John Collius Jackson. The body will be placed in the mausoleum. (note from Ann-this cemetery has no mausoleum, Lewis is buried in the ground.)

notes from Ann: son Burchard's first name was Lewis (or Louis, both he and his father went by either Lewis or Louis). Lewis Shump was the son of John Conrad Shump and Isabel Marting who both came here from Germany.

Said Lewis N. Shump died leaving Nannie A. Shump his widow who resides in Valley township; John C. Shump, SON, age 45 living in Pittsburg, Gertrude McKnight, DAUGHTER, age 43 living in Pittsburg, Louis B. Shump, SON, age 41 living in Kansas City, MO., Floyd G. Shump, SON, age 39 living in Valley township, Lonella Moore, DAUGHTER, age 34 living in Cleveland, Ohio, Nettie G. Belle, DAUGHTER, age 32 living in Cleveland, Ohio, Sherman Shump, SON, age 29 living in Valley township, Everett E. Shump, SON, age 27, living in Portsmouth.
