IN DEATH: JOHN C. SCHUMP and Wife Were Not Separated
The Venerable Long Run Farmer and His Wife Passed Away Within a Few Hours of Each Other
John C. Schump, the well known Long Run Farmer, died Saturday evening at the residence of his son Louis on Long Run, where he had with his wife been making his home for several years past. Deceased was born in Germany in 1812 and came to the United States in the early 40's, settling in this country, where he married and spent the remainder of his life. He reared a large family. His son, Theo Q. Schump of Gallia Street, had gone out to the old homestead upon receipt of advice that his father was very ill and remained over Sunday to attend the obseques, little thinking there would be a double burial.
Sunday evening the mother wearied and burdened with the cares of a long and useful life, also passed away, aged 84. The children, seven in number, were present as follows: Theo Q., of this city; William of Sciotoville; Captain H. C. of Ashland; Louis of Long Run, Frank of Peoria, ILL; and Mrs. James Weeks of Little Scioto. One sister of Mrs. Schump survivies, Mrs. Fred Mittendorf of South Webster. The funeral of the couple will be held on Tuesday at the German United Brethren Church on Long Run, Rev. Chandler, circuit rider of that district, officiating.
