From his obituary and remembrances of his daughter, Clara: "Tobias Kamla...baptized in infancy into the Lutheran faith...confirmed into full membership in the Lutheran Church at...16 years.

Family lived first on a farm which was land given as a wedding gift by parents of Tobias, moved to North Platte one year when there was railroad work, back to farm..."In (October) 1921, he moved...to a farm northwest of Winona, KS, where they lived for 17 years--until 1938...While living in Winona he helped to organize a Lutheran church...[in a nearby community]." Following the farm in Winona, he moved the family to a farm on Beaver Creek between Brewster and Bird City, KS. He also owned land farmed by his son, Merlin, near Arriba, CO.

"Mr. Kamla spent his life farming until he moved to Bird City. After that he did trucking and other work of help to farmers...lived in comparatively good health... A year ago he suffered a rather severe heart attack. Seeming to have recovered he showed few indications of heart trouble. Thursday afternoon while fishing at the Rock Creek State lake near Parks, NE, ...he suffered a severe attack and quietly passed away..."
