Suggested edit: Funeral services for Cecil Charlie Melton, 88, of Livingston were conducted Tuesday, March 7, at 2 PM in the chapel of the Livingston Funeral Home. Interment was in the Fellowship Cemetery. Mr. Melton passed away Sunday evening, March 5, in the Overton County Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Charlie was born April 6, 1900 to the late WilliamThomas Melton and Sarah Perlina Davis Melton in the Willow Grove Community of Clay County. He married Della Mae Thrasher on January 15, 1925. Charlie lived in Clay County most of his life, and served as county commissioner for several years. Charlie was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife; seven daughters: Bonnie Shipley of Celina, TN; Ruby Hurley and Sue Cravens of Anderson, IN; Christine Brown of Bedford, IN, Elizabeth Richardson of Livingston, TN; Tommie Adams and Helen Ledbetter of Indianapolis, IN. Two sons: Charlie (Bill) Melton of Anderson, IN and James Melton of Livingston, TN. Seven sisters: Auda Bell and Laura Neely of Livingston; Polly Charboneau of Califonia; Sula Brewster of Bedford, IN.; Seraphine Nelson of Allons, TN; Nannie Rogers of Moss, TN.; and Edna Burchett of Indpls., IN. Two brothers: J.D. Melton of Carthage and Warren Melton of Celina, TN. He was also survived by 25 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Regina Melton; three brothers: Herman, Joe, and Ben Melton, and two sisters Jewell Melton and Clara Long.
Serving as pall bearers were: Paul Brown, Randy Richardson, Darrell Melton, Duane Adams, Mike Ledbetter, and David Cravens.
