Funeral services for Della Mae Thrasher Melton, age 84, were conducted Saturday, February 6, 1993 in the Chapel of the Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Marlon Winningham officiating. Internment was in the Fellowship Cemetery. Mrs. Melton passed away Wednesday, February 3 at the Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a resident of the Overton County Nursing Home.
Mae Melton was born on February 16, 1908 in the Willow Grove Community of Clay County. Her parents were Julia Elizabeth Thrasher and Leland Delbert (Dib) Huffer. After the death of her Mother, she was raised by her Grandfather, Otas Thrasher, and his second wife, Margaret Watson Thrasher.
Mae lived in Clay County most of her life, but moved to Overton County in 1974. She married Cecil Charlie Melton on January 15, 1924. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Hilham Church of Christ.
Survivors include seven daughters: Bonnie Shipley, Celina, TN; Ruby Hurley and Sue Cravens, Anderson, IN.; Christine Brown, Bedford, IN; Tommie Adams and Helen Ledbetter, Indianapolis, IN. and Elizabeth Richardson, Livingston, TN. Two sons: Charlie (Bill) Melton, Anderson, IN. and James Melton, Livingston, TN. Twenty-five grandchildren, and several great granchildren.
Serving as pall bearers were: Johnny Williams, Mike Ledbetter, Duane Adams, Darrell Melton, Bobby Richardson, and David Cravens.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Regina Melton.
