He was born February 4, 1921, in Shippensburg, Cumberland County; he was a son of the late Alice Dunbar Alpaugh.
He was a retired manager of Farner's Billiards in Shippensburg and years ago worked for the former Railway Express. John will be remembered as a Shippensburg High School basketball athlete, graduating in 1940.
Surviving are two daughters: Joan A. (Mrs. Edward E.) Flowers, Pensacola, Fla., Kay A. (Mrs. Lawrence A.) Flowers, Pensacola, Fla.; three brothers: Earl F. Alpaugh, Shippensburg, Richard L. (His wife: Alice) Alpaugh, Chambersburg, Russell L. Alpaugh, Chambersburg; three grandchildren: Ryan Flowers, Edward Flowers & Eric (his Wife: Kristina) Flowers, all of Pensacola, Fla.; a nephew: Rick Alpaugh Jr., Manassas, Va., and his two sons; a niece, Susan Alpaugh, Shippensburg.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles F. Alpaugh.
Burial, Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg, completed arrangements.
