Obituary for John Alden Bean—
John Alden Bean, 89, of Teton City (Idaho), died December 24, 1996, at his home.
He was born March 24, 1907 at Provo, Utah to Marcellus and Johanna Caroline Edman Bean. The family moved to Teton when he was 8 or 9 years of age, and he attended schools in Teton and St. Anthony, graduating from Teton City High School in 1925. He also attended college for one winter in Salt Lake City (Utah).
Having been raised on the family farm, he was involved in farm work, tending sheep, and he loved horses.
On December 19, 1928, he married Ione Wellard in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, and they made their home in Teton City. He learned the carpentry trade from his brother, Clarence, and they worked together in home, church and farm construction.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in various positions, including as bishop of the Teton Ward, on the North Rexburg Stake High Council, as bishop's counselor, ward clerk and High Priest group leader. He enjoyed camping, fishing and especially his family.
Survivors include his wife, Ione, of Teton; Janice Wilding of Teton, Gary Bean of Ivins, Utah, and Brent Bean of Mesilla Park, New Mexico; 16 grandchildren ; and 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, six sisters and a daughter-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Teton LDS 1st Ward. Friends may visit Saturday at 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Teton-Newdale Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg (Idaho).
