Melva Edna Bean Andersen, 88, longtime Teton resident, died August 26, 1990, at her home in Teton after a lingering illness.

She was born June 6, 1902, at Provo, Utah, to Marcellus and Johannah (Johanna) Edman Bean. In 1915, she moved with her family to Teton. She graduated from St. Anthony High School and Albion State Normal School, where she earned a teaching degree. She was also a licensed beautician, having received her training in Boise.

On June 6, 1926, she married Lelan Andersen in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple.

They lived in Jackson, Wyoming, Kemmerer, Wyoming, Salt Lake City, and Idaho Falls before moving to Teton, where they lived most of their married life. Her husband died in 1975.

She taught school at Teton and Sugar City, and operated a beauty shop in St. Anthony for many years.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in the Relief Society presidency. She enjoyed library work, gardening, reading, quilting and sewing.

Survivors include her children, Rodney L. Andersen of Orem, Utah, Steven R. Andersen of Teton, Mrs. Gary (Barbara) Beddes of Shelley, Mrs. Gary (Maryn) Graham of Ririe, and Mrs. Brian (Judy) Anderson of Jerome; a brother and sister, John A. Bean of Teton, and Mrs. Al (Ruth) Schnurle of St. Anthony; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. In the Teton LDS Ward with Bishop Merrill Pincock officiating. The family will meet with friends Wednesday for one hour before the services. Burial will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery under the direction of the Bidwell Funeral Home in St. Anthony.
