1938-2010 BENNINGTON Freida Loretta Pello Sears, 72, a resident of County Street in Bennington, died on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, following a long illness.
Born on Jan. 15, 1938, daughter of the late Ezekiel and Inez Montgomery Cross, she received her education in local schools and is a graduate of the North Bennington High School in the class of 1955. She later attended St. Joseph's College in Bennington.
Freida was married to Joseph Pello III, whom she married in Bennington in 1957, and later to William Sears, whom she married in Bennington in February 1987.
For many years she has been employed at the First Vermont Bank in Bennington, and has worked her way up through the ranks to a Personal Banker when she retired in July 2009, at Citizens Bank.
Freida is a former Lister for the town and currently is a Justice of the Peace. She also sits on the Board of Directors for the Bennington Coalition for the Homeless. She was a former member of the Battenkill Grange.
Freida is a member of the American Legion Post #13 Auxiliary of Bennington, and former member of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church choir. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and spending time at camp on Lake Champlain.
She leaves her son, Bryan Pello of Bennington; her daughter and son-in-law, Frieda Anne and Keith Gardner of Shaftsbury; and five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. She leaves one brother, Carroll Cross of Bennington, and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her two dogs, Oliver and Dozer.
Freida is predeceased by her husband, Bill; one daughter, Brenda Joy Pello; two brothers, Ludell Cross, and Ezekiel Cross.
MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, Apr. 17, at 10 a.m. at the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery. Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington on Friday, Apr. 16 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the SVHC Regional Cancer Center or the American Cancer Society , or the American Humane Society through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary are asked to meet at 6:15 Friday to conduct services.
