Your Love Will Remian in Our Hearts Foverer

A Svenska Flicka
One hundred percent Swedish in ancestry, Irma was the third of the nine children of Andrew Sven Nelson and Emma Adelia Wassgren. Her father Andrew was section foreman for the Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern Railroad for nearly thirty-three years. Mother Emma was the disciplinarian of the family, while father was at all times gentle, loving and kind.

Music
Irma played piano and organ wonderfully "by ear." She had both a big beautiful organ and a piano at right angles in her home, and she played both at the same time, left hand on one, right on the other, sliding from bench to bench to play each separately as well. Thrilling!

The Creamery
Irma worked for years at Challenge Creamery in Los Angeles. She called herself "The Butter Lady" as that was the department she worked in there. She often treated her young relatives in Maywood, California with ice cream that she personally delivered packed in dry ice. While the ice cream she brought was surely yummy, Aunt Irma knew the real magic was in the dry ice that would bubble and smoke when dropped into a bucket of water to the delight and joy of the children.

Avocados
On one of her visits to Iowa in the 1950's, Irma introduced her Iowa relatives with avocados from California. They had heard of avocados in Iowa but didn't know what they were. Irma was disappointed that no one could figure out what was so great about avocados. Needless to say, in future years they all learned to like avocados.

Homes
Irma's childhood home was on Ash Street in the small beautiful village of Harcourt, Iowa. As an adult she lived at 3823 53rd Street, Maywood, California. After her second divorce, Irma had a home built in Harcourt, Iowa intending to move back to Iowa and live there. But it never happened; she rented out the home for a while and eventually sold it.

Marriages
1. Orville Andrew Paulsen in 1925
(Two daughters, one son; divorced)
2. Ernest Albert Alexander in 1949
(divorced 1969, finalized 1971)

Irma is laid to rest beside her devoted son, Orville "Junior" Paulsen.
