Wayne W. "Bill" Asper, of Gettysburg, died February 25, 2012, surrounded by his family.

He was born August 28, 1919, in Aspers, the son of the late Paul and Beatrice Pittenturf Asper.

Mr. Asper was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in the 4th Infantry Division Combat Engineers in the European Theater.

Bill was employed by Rice, Trew & Rice from 1935 until 1955, and from 1956 until 1976 he worked for R.F. Trusdell Trucking in Biglerville, which was the transportation company for Inland Container Company.

Following his retirement from Trusdell Trucking Co., he went to work for his son at Philip Asper Building Contractor, where he worked until 2003.

Mr. Asper was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg. He was a member of the Biglerville American Legion, Post 262, the Gettysburg VFW Post 15, where he was a past commander, and the Catholic War Veterans in Bonneauville. He was also a member of the Hanover Elks Club.

Mr. Asper is survived by his wife of 71 years, Regina Kane Asper; son, Ronald W. Asper and wife, Donna of Gettysburg; daughter, Donna L. Rosato of Bangor, PA; daughter-in-law, Connie L. Asper of Biglerville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Guise of York Springs; brother, Jack Asper of Gardners; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by a son, Philip Asper; and two brothers, Richard Asper and Robert Asper.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated February 29, 2012, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Jonathan Sawicki celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fairfield, with full military honors.
