Philip P. Asper, of Biglerville, died May 4, 2010, surrounded by his family.

He was born April 10, 1948, in Gettysburg, the son of Wayne and Regina Kane Asper of Gettysburg.

Mr. Asper was a 1966 graduate of Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown.

Phil was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves from 1967 until 1973. For over 37 years he has owned and operated Philip Asper Construction Company.

He was the senior member of the Board of Directors of the Adams County National Bank having served for 22 years.

Mr. Asper was a lifelong member of the Biglerville Fire and Ambulance Company, where he served on their Board of Trustees and was a former Assistant Chief. Phil helped start the annual "Shrimp Feed" over 30 years ago and to this day it is one of the largest fund raisers the company holds. He has also help other fire companies create their own shrimp dinners. He was a former President of the Adams County Home Builders Association, the Upper Adams Little League, and the Upper Adams Youth Wrestling Association. He was a member of the Biglerville American Legion Post 262 and the Hanover Elks Club. Through the years Phil coached various baseball teams in Upper Adams and was an umpire for girl's softball. He volunteered at Oak Side Park in Biglerville and helped build the Little League fields behind the park. Phil was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg, where he served as an usher and spent many hours helping with remolding at the church.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Connie Mickley Asper, and in addition to her and his parents, is survived by a daughter, Kristi Asper and her companion, Robert Jacoby, Jr. of Aspers; two sons, Donny Asper of Philadelphia and Mark Asper of Biglerville; a grandson, Paul Asper of Aspers; a brother, Ron Asper and wife, Donna of Gettysburg; a sister, Donna Rosato and her companion, Michael Zeigler of Bangor, PA; and a close friend, Quentin Lesh.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fairfield.
