On February 11, 1864, Miss Sussa P. Evans, a native of Illinois married James Alfred Mannering. He was 25 years of age and Susan was 18. Susan was born to parents James and Hulda Evans near Carthage Illinois on March 15, 1846. She died near Bentonville Arkansas while visiting her niece on October 12, 1896 (50 years old). She is buried in Park Grove Cemetery in Lowry City Missouri.

Together they had ten children;
