This community was startled this morning by the announcement of the sudden death of Miss Mary Elizabeth Clapp, daughter of the late Dr. Asabel Clapp; and sister of Dr. William A. Clapp. Miss Clapp was upon the street but a few days ago in the enjoyment of apparent perfect health, and none of her friends anticipated her death. On Thursday she complained of feeling ill, and yesterday considerable fever was manifest; but her brother and friends hoped this would pass away in a few days. But she has long been a sufferer from heart disease, and this suddenly developing fatal symptoms her spirit passed away at 7 o'clock this morning. Mary E. Clapp was born November 21, 1831, in the house in which she passed all her life and where she died. - New Albany Daily Ledger Standard 09 Jul 1881
