"Henry" was the son of Jacob Mintun and his wife Rebecca Rardin, and the twin brother of Eliza Ann (Mintun) Keach. Henry married Frances "Fanny" Hayes on 16 March 1959 in Louisa county, Iowa. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter Sarah Elizabeth. He was survived by his wife, sons John Henry and Valentine B., and daughters Carolyn Louise and Minnie.

Henry and his father purchased the "Burris City Commercial" newspaper in 1857, and moved it to Wapello, Iowa in 1859. The 1900 census of Kansas City lists Henry as a "Compositor", most likely a typesetter for a local publisher.
