Obituary:
Joseph Ephriam Conner was born April, 30, 1853, in Monroe County, Ohio. From his native state, he came to Iowa in 1882, and moved to Nebraska in 1886, locating on the Dry Cedar valley, Garfield county. There he lived until four years ago, when he moved to Burwell. He was united in marriage to Tacy Fitzgerald, June 7, 1894, and to them six children were born, Jay, Charlie, Howard, Otis, Joe and Mrs. Walter Key, all of Burwell. On Friday morning, May 25, Mr. Conner passed to his heavenly home. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife; six children; four brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Tom, Ben, Stephen, and George, and the sisters are Sadie and Jane, also a half brother, Will Conner, who resides in Virginia.
Mr. Conner became a member of the Methodist church when fourteen years of age and remained a consistent christian until his death. For many years, Brother Conner was an active local preacher in the Methodist church. He was always happy to take advantage of every opportunity for Christian service. During his residence in Burwell, he had taken earnest interest in the work of the church, especially that of the men's bible class of which he was the teacher for many years. His presence at the church services and prayer meeting will be greatly missed. The writer recalls his testimony in which he stated that he had averaged attending prayer meeting once a week for the past fifty years, truly a wonderful record.
He will be missed by a host of friends and relatives in the community.
"The time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me, a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me"
