Lois Jean Martin, 81, formerly of Peoria Heights, passed away Feb. 14, 2006.
She was born to Adolph and Anna Sheppard Arnold on May 18, 1924, in Pekin. She married William Robert Martin on Sept. 25, 1943, in Peoria.
Lois worked as a registered surgical nurse for OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for 48 years and was a member of the American Operating Room Nurses.
She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights and was a part of the Senior Saints.
Lois went by the nickname "Red" by all the card club girls, a group of women who got together after graduating at Pekin High School, to play bridge and talk and support each other through all the years. Most women had been friends since 3rd Grade, there were 9 of them.
Besides card playing, Lois enjoyed swimming, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Christine (David) Fildes of Tremont; her stepson, William (Shirley) Robert Martin Jr. of Lewiston, N.Y.; her sister, Rosemary (William) Schnitker of Pekin; and her brother, Robert (Evelyn) Arnold of Pekin. She also leaves behind her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William R Martin; sisters: Kathleen and Virginia.
