ELSIE M. (SHIRA) BARKER
GALENA, KANSAS: Elsie M. Shira Barker, 78, 115 E. Vine St., died at 10:20 pm, Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, MO following an illness.
Elsie was born February 7, 1922, at Pineville, MO. Her parents were John and Cletus (Mooney) Shira.
She was a lifetime resident of Galena.
She began working in the early 1960's as a nurse assistant at Tri-State Manor, Galena, KS. She retired in 1985 from Barker Rest Home, Galena, KS.
Her hobbies were gardening and fishing.
She was married to Cletis M. Barker on March 26, 1937 at Columbus, KS. He died September 22, 1976.
Surviving are two sons, Johnnie Barker, Danville, PA, and Marvin Barker, Galena, KS; one daughter, Donnis Willis, Joplin, MO.; three brothers, John Shira, Baxter Springs, KS, Frank Shira, Wichita, KS, and Sam Shira, Galena, KS; four sisters, Maxine Grimes, Galena, KS, Lavon Daniels, Joplin, MO, Ella Jean Hill, St. Marie's, ID, Ethel Brynie, Farmington, N.M.; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Three sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 pm, Sunday, November 19, 2000 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS.
Rev. Jeff Martin will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
The family will be at the home at 115 E. Vine St.
