Harvey Harrison Ludlum, Jr., 85, Chanute, died Thursday. Feb. 1, 2007 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.

Harvey was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Elsmore to Harvey H. and Emma A. (Olson) Ludlum. He attended Skyrocket School in rural Elsmore. Harvey served his country in the United States Army.

He married Ethel McAnulty on June 25, 1948, in Iola. He was a postal carrier in Humboldt for 22 years.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Ethel; children Jerry Ludlum and wife Amy of Erie, Janice Baker and husband Dennis of Humboldt, Anita Gilbert and husband Paul of Fayetteville, Ark., Rita Butler and her husband Leroy of Topeka, and Evert Ludlum and his wife Donna of Chanute; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-greandchildren; two sisters, Edith Bolinger and Evelyn Richards; and a brother, Wilburt Ludlum.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven R. Ludlum; two brothers and three sisters.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5 at Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Cherry Street Youth Center in Chanute and may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
