Downey...Norman "Lynn" Day, 85, departed this life peacefully on January 15, 2012 at his home in Downey, Idaho.

He was born March 19, 1926 in Downey, the son of Norman and Anna Salvesen Day. Lynn completed high school in Downey, and at the age of 18 began two years of military service to his country. He served in the European theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Lynn studied agriculture for a year under the GI bill at Utah State Agricultural College. He made his life in the Marsh Valley and on June 11, 1951 married Lou Donna Peck at the Logan Utah Temple.

Lynn was a skilled millwright and had a long career maintaining grain elevators throughout Idaho and Utah for Downey Grain Growers and for Farmer's Grain Cooperative. He was also a proud and active member of the American Legion.

Lynn enjoyed hunting in the mountains around Downey, fishing along Devil Creek, nights of dancing with Lou Donna and family gatherings surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He played a mean game of pinochle, could toss a wickedly accurate horseshoe and had a keen and constant wit.

Lynn is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Jene, Wanda and Dorothy.

He is survived by his wife and four children: Don (Karen), of Malad, Donna Lynn, of Ely, NV, Dennis (Debbie), of Downey and Darren (Elaine), of Downey and Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 12 noon in the Downey LDS 1st Ward Chapel. Friends may visit with the Day family this evening (Wednesday) at the Downey church from 7-8 pm and on Thursday prior to service from 10:30-11:45 am.
