DOWNEY - Dorothy Louise Day Malott, 85, of Downey, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at her home in Downey after a long illness.
Dorothy was born in Downey, Idaho, on September 25, 1923. She was the daughter of Norman Day and Anna Salvesen Day. She graduated from Downey High School. She went to the National Youth Administration business school in Weiser, Idaho, but when the World War II started, she quit school and went to Utah to work at a war plant.
Dorothy married Odie Ray Malott Sr. on May 12, 1946. They met and fell in love while Odie was serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Sharon Lynn Nichols (Mel), serving an LDS mission in India, Odie Ray Malott Jr. (Laurie) of Downey, Idaho; a brother, Norman Lynn (Lou Donna) of Downey, Idaho; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Jene, her sister, Wanda, and two great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Dorothy loved traveling, especially to Alaska and Hawaii. She loved going to Downata Hot Springs with her friends, spending time with her family, watching movies and was an avid reader; she also loved listening to music.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Creekside Hospice for the loving care they gave our mother and sister.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, in the Downey LDS Ward Chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Downey City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Horsley's Marsh Valley Funeral Home.
