Mrs. Georgia Mae Atkinson, of Roanoke, Alabama, passed away on May 30, 2011. She was 98.

Mrs. Atkinson was born on August 5, 1912 in Rhine, Georgia to the late George and Maxie Lee Hart. She was a homemaker and a member of Providence Baptist Church in Broxton, Georgia but, while living here, attended Indian Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, Brady Atkinson; her sisters, Lessie Dupree, Lottie Cummings, Maxie Knight, Maggie Kormanac, Ruth Travassos, and Irene Konecny; her brothers, Elias Juxey Lee, Henry Hugh "Bo" Hart, George Hart, and Homer Hart; her step-daughter, Marine Summerlin; and her step-sons, Buddy and Bobby Atkinson.

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Vernell Tanner of Douglas, GA and Mary and William "Bill" Gay of Ranburne, AL; her sister, Lena Ferrell of St. Augustine, FL, her brother, Ashley T. "Dick" Hart of Ashburn, GA; her step-daughters, Varnaree King and LaVaughn Tanner, both of Hazelhurst, GA; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Indian Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Dewayne Atkinson and Rev. Richard Tanner will officiate. Music will be rendered by Manuel Travassos. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with Rev. Ralph Caldwell conducting the graveside services.
