Edward DeForest McQuiston was born in Irwin Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, the son of Davidson and Isoline (Mitchell/daughter of Samuel William and Rachel (Kerr) Mitchell). He was the brother of Jessie Lee (Grant), Genevieve "Jennie" (Boyer), Dr. Mary (Miller), Samuel N., Maud and Grace Clare (Peer) McQuiston.

On September 14, 1900, he married Sarah Yoder(s) and they became the parents of Mabel Isoline (Bell), Elmer DeForest, Ernest Lloyd, Clarence Mitchell, Eugene Ellsworth, Mary Inez ("Peggy"), Harold Edward, Melda Grace, Jesse Grant and Robert John. After the death of his first wife Sarah in 1918, he married Ethel Mary Norton Edwards on October 30, 1923 and they became the parents of Lily Bell (McDaniels) and Anona May (Poszgai) McQuiston.

"McQUISTON, Edward DeForest, 81, died Saturday (Aug. 25) at the Blackford County Hospital in Hartford City (cerebral hemorrhage/stroke). Born in Kennerdell, PA, son of David and Isoline Mitchell McQuiston. Married to Sarah Yoder(s) who died in 1918. Second Marriage to Ethel Mary Norton-Edwards who died February 18,1945 (their marriage ended by divorce). F.E. Cristwell Funeral Home, Emlenton Cemetery, PA. Survived by five daughters, including Mrs. Lily McDaniels of Montpelier; six sons; and a sister."
