Jennie Van Voorst, 97, died Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Valley Manor. Funeral Service will be 9:30 am Tuesday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Rev. P.L. Bazen will be officiating Visitation will be Monday with the family present 6:30-8:30 pm Monday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Jennie Maassen was born October 15, 1910 at Sully, Iowa, daughter of John and Rika (Van Grootheest) Maassen. The family moved to Rock Valley in 1920.
Jennie married Jacob Van Voorst on November 21, 1930 at Rock Valley. Together they farmed in the Rock Valley-Alvord area. Jacob died October 9, 1958.
Jennie worked in the kitchen of Rock Valley Public School before working as an aid at the Valley Manor. Jennie was a Hope Haven Foster Grandparent helping with the rug weaving and other tasks for many years.
Jennie is survived by 3 sons, Jacob J. (Hilda) Van Voorst of Lester, IA, John J. (Rena) Van Voorst of Sioux Center, IA, and Raymond Van Voorst of Sioux City, IA; daughter, Jeanette (Marvin) Van Beek of Alvord, IA; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; grandsons, Jaylon Van Voorst and John Van Beek; great-grandson, Lucas Faber; 6 brothers, Henry, Geurt, Maas, Gerrit, John, Evert, Marinus Maassen; 5 sisters, Hattie Buitenwerf, Lizzie Huyser, Hendrika Maassen, Effie Van Ginkle, and Minnie Rozeboom.
