Mrs. Everitt was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church. She graduated from Comanche High school and received a B.S. degree from Daniel Baker's College. She held at MA degree in English from Hardin-Simmons University. She was a teacher and school principal at Comanche for many years.

She was librarian at Brownwood Junior High from 1942-1963. She was a member of the Classroom Teacher's Association, National Teachers Association, Life member of Friends of Libraries, charter member of the Brown County Historical Society.

Survivors; three daughters - Mary Broughton, Ellen Bower, Jo Acrea; son - William C., sister - Clara Thompson; six brothers - A.J. Mehaffey, H.H. Mehaffey of Breckenridge, R.C. Mehaffey, W.L. McHaffey, G.E. Mehaffey, Col. N.G. Mehaffey; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

This is my paternal grand mother. Her son James Dale buried next to her. I am James' first son.

I was adopted and surname changed to Smith.

Funeral home records, death certificate and obituary all show her date of birth as 1897. The tombstone shows the date of birth as 1898.
