Mr. Theodore Claudius Mehaffey, 81, who recently celebrated his 63rd wedding anniversary December 8, 1955 with his wife and most of his 11 children (all of whom are living) present for the occasion, died at his home April 22, 1956.
The exemplary lives of his children and grandchildren are a living eulogy to Mr. Mehaffey.
Theodore Claudius was the second of three children born to Mr. and Mrs. and Margaret Ellen Mehaffey at White Rock, Texas on January 18, 1875. He married Darcus Elizabeth Jackson at White Rock December 8, 1892. To this union were born eight sons and three daughters, all of whom survive.
The couple moved to Santa Anna in 1907; Comanche in 1912 and to Gorman in 1940 upon retirement from an active farming and business life.
Services were held in the Gorman Methodist Church at 3 p.m., Monday, April 23. Rev. Floyd Thrash of De Leon and Rev. K. W. Sharbutt officiated.
Aside from his wife and children Mr. Mehaffey is survived by 36 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: grandsons, Aaron, Robert, Joe Buntin and Jimmy Mehaffey and Charles Harrell and Billie C. Everett. Honorary pallbearers were: grandsons, Joe, Claudie, Luis, Butch, Maurice, and Terry Mehaffey, and Mack and James Everett.
Interment was in the Gorman Cemetery.
