Samuel Albert Montgomery was the 2nd child born to LPC & Suzie Montgomery.
He was born in Greenville, Texas on August 26, 1894, and just months later, the family moved to Oklahoma.
Around 1912, Sam met Claudia Verron "Vernie" Cooper, the daughter of William & Elizabeth
Cooper in Sayre, OK.And they were married abt,1914. In 1939, the Montgomerys purchased a grocery store at the junction of highways 6 and 283, eight miles north of Sayre,and 14 miles west of Elk City.
In 1950, the same year Vernie passed away, Sam was appointed State Pardon and Patrol Officer,
a post he held for 11 years until his retirement.
After "Vernie's" death in 1950.He met and married Myrtle M.Jarvis Maltby on July 16 1951. After he and Myrtle married they raised horses and cattle.And loved to play Solataire,and they were members of Elk City Roundup Club.He joined Myrtle helping her at Maltbys cafe in Sayre after their marriage.I believe it was changed to Montgomery Cafe.
He died September 10, 1975, on his farm west of Elk City, Oklahoma.
Sam was a farmer until 1935, when he was appointed Deputy Sheriff of Beckham County, Oklahoma.
In 1944, Sam was elected Beckham County Sheriff, and served in that office for 6 years.
He had many experiences while in office, including searching for Pretty Boy Floyd when he was considered
to be the #1 outlaw in the country.
