The parent's of Edmund Bemis are not certain. He is thought to have come from Sturbridge, Mass and may be the son of Capt. Edmund & Eunice (Chadwick) Bemis.

Edmund Bemis' Revolutionary War Service:
"Edmund Bemiss (1746-1829) of Charlton, Mass. Served as Private and Sergeant in Revolutionary War. Enlisted in May 1775 and served eight-months as Private in Capt Joel Green's Company - Colonel Ebenezer Learnard's Massachusetts Regiment: Following this service he enlisted and served as Sergeant in Capt Isaac Bolster's Company - Col. Ebenezer Learnard's Massachusetts Regiment - until Feb'y 1777 - Was in three battles. Served also in a company of Whitcomb's Regiment off Massachusetts Volunteers. He was allowed pension April 1818 while a resident of Whitingham, Vt. ( Edmund Bemiss of Charlton Private in Capt Green's Company Col. Learnard's Regiment in eight months service at siege of Boston in 1775. from Sec'y Commonwealth of Mass. Frederic W. Cook dated June 14, 1930)."
