Mary Elizabeth Loring, a long-time resident of Sabine Parish, died Saturday the 26th of November, 2011 at her home in Plano, Texas at the age of 88 years.

Born on January 16, 1923, in McAlester, Okla., Mary quickly discovered her deep love for music and in serving our Lord Jesus Christ. Considered a prodigy in her time, she became an accomplished vocalist, pianist and organist by her teenage years. Her formal training in all three disciplines continued for years and her enjoyment of performing remained with her for more than five decades.

Mary devoted her entire life to Christ and her testimony was in her music shared with hundreds of people. Residents of Sabine Parish and far beyond witnessed her talent and faith through countless weddings, funerals, church concerts, revivals and community events. She was organist at the Zwolle First Baptist Church for decades and served as church secretary for some 20 years.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 65 years, John H. "Bill" Loring in 2006. She is survived by her three daughters; three sons-in law, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. While so many of her friends have gone on before, she also leaves a host of friends very dear to her heart who brightened her days with countless conversations, prayers and best wishes. May God richly bless each of you for your long, devoted friendships and love.

Memorial services were held on Friday, December 2, at the Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas, followed by internment in the Dallas National Cemetery in Grand Prairie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to the Music Fund of Zwolle First Baptist Church, or to the American Cancer Society, which she generously supported.
