Peter was the second of at least six children born to William and Nancy Castleman. His siblings were Jacob (b.1846), Joseph (b.1851), Caleb (b.1853), Margaret E. (b.1856), William D. (b.1859). I found the family on the 1850 Census, living in Pleasant, Wabash, Indiana where William was earning a living as a "laborer".
By the 1860 Census, the family had moved to North Bend, Starke, Indiana, where William was farming.
On 12 Feb 1876, Peter married Louisa Jane Miller. The couple had ten children together--Minnie (1876-1892), Estella (1879-1906) who married Jacob Voreis, Nellie (1880-1963) who married Lawrence Gurthet in 1907), Carrie (b.1882) who married Edward C. Johnson in 1905), Herbert Austin (1885-1963), Chester (1890-1894), Tina Ester (1891-1976) who married George W. Ellinger in 1909, Edith Iola (1893-1957) who married Andrew Edward Bunn in 1912, Ernest J. (1897-1943) and Faye (1898-1977) who married Clifford Wooldridge in 1920.
I found the family on the 1880 Census, living in Aubbeenaubbee, Fulton, Indiana, where Peter was farming for a living. By the 1900 Census, they have moved east to Green (today the Argos, Marshall area). Louisa reported that 8 of her 10 children were still living. Minnie had died in 1892 at age 16, and Chester in 1894 at age two.
They were still in Green on the 1910 Census and Peter was still a farmer. They lost daughter Estella in 1906.
Peter died in 1916 at age 67. Wife Louisa lived another ten years before being laid to rest at his side.
