While residing in Canada, he served in the Canadian Merchant Marines. During the Korean War he served as a cook in the United States Army. On June 25, 1955, he married Susan "Sue" (Beltrano) Asadoorian in St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls and together they settled in Niagara Falls. Mrs. Asadoorian predeceased him on May 29, 2003. He then worked in the production department at Kimberly Clark and, along with his brothers, operated Doorian's Pizzeria in St. Catharines, Ontario during the 1960's and 1970's.
