He retired from Coca Cola and served in the U.S. Army-Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Ingram Shuffield in 1999 and a daughter, Odesa Bryant in 2008.

Survivors: Sons: Garlen Lynn Shuffield, Wilburn Van Shuffield, 5 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren.
