Luther Creed Hill Farmer-Rancher Dies June 8

Luther Creed (L C) Hill, 66, farmer, rancher and leader in institutions relating to the livestock business, died at 5:49 am Sunday, June 8, in High Plains Baptist Hospital Amarillo.

Mr Hill was the grandson of two pioneer couples, the Wilks and the Hills, who settled at Arlie just two years less than a century ago. Besides his own livestock operations,
Mr Hill served the livestock industry in Texas as a director of the Panhandle Livestock Association, a director of the Texas Livestock Marketing Association, and a director of the National Finance Credit Association of Texas.

He was born October 30, 1919, on the family farm at Arlie, the son of L C and Annie Wilks Hill. His grandparents, George and Frances Fields Wilks and Lewis and Annie Belle Deahl Hill, had come there in 1888. The L C Hill family moved to Wellington in 1925.

Luther Creed Hill graduated from Wellington High School 1936 and in 1940 received a B S degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War and in 1946 he returned to the family's farming and ranching in Collingsworth and Childress Counties.

He was married to Olivia Templeton of Wellington October 19, 1940. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Wellington. A project of special concern to Mr Hill and his wife is the care and preservation of the Arlie Cemetery.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm Tuesday, June 10, in First United Methodist Church, with Dr Tom Thomson, pastor, officiating. Burial at the Arlie Cemetery under the direction of Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors. Pall bearers were Bart Kirchoff of Hollis, Louis Allred, Sam Hill of Amarillo, Ed Small and Mervin Cook of Austin, Harold Dennis of Hollis, Richard Bird of Childress
and Kent Holland.

Survivors are his wife, Olivia Hill; one daughter Mrs Adolf (Frances) Schmidt; and two grandsons, Britt Schmidt and Frederic Schmidt, all of Wellington. He was preceded in death by one son, Creed Lewis Hill, in 1975.
