"US CENSUS 1850"
name: Elias Briggs
event: Census
event date: 1850

It has been suggested, that: Elias Briggs' first wife was Mary Jane (aka "Jenny") Rose Briggs. She was born in 1807 in Floyd County KY , married Elias in Scott County Indiana in 1823, and died in 1851 in Schuyler County Illinois. The Jane Frazure Briggs who is frequently cited as being buried next to him is, in fact, Jenny Rose Briggs, the daughter of Francis Marion Rose b. 1784 probably in KY, and who died 27 August 1848 in Scott County Indiana.
---
It has been suggested, that: Jane Frazure, who was actually Elizabeth Jane Seybold Frazure, Elias's second wife, was born in 1811-12 in Preble County Ohio and survived Elias and died in Schuyler County in 1875. Her previous husbands were a John Frazure and a John Caddell.
I have no idea for certain how the confusion regarding Elias's two wives got started, but it looks as though Elizabeth Jane Seybold had first married a Jonathan Reddick in Orange County Indiana in 1826, which gave rise to the idea that Elias Briggs married a Jane Reddick. I am not certain as to the sequence for her marriages to Frazure and Caddell. But as to the identity of Elias's first wife, she was definitely Mary Jane/"Jenny" Rose, not Jane Frazure or Jane Reddick.
