MRS. WINSTON PITTS DIES; FUNERAL TO BE AT ROANOKE
ROANOKE, Feb. 25---Mrs. Winston Pitts, for 19 years superinetndent of the Roanoke High School and long prominent in Roanoke civic affairs, died at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Gray of Brownsville, Tenn., with whom she had lived since her health began to fail several years ago. She was 76 years old.
Mrs. Pitts was born and reared in Roanoke, the daughter of the late Captain and Mrs. Alex Denny, prominent citizens. She had long been active in civic affairs until her resignation from the high school position 10 years ago. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia, and a member of the Presbyterian church.
She is survived by her husband, who also had been living in Brownsville; three children, Mrs. Gray, Sam Pitts of San Francisco and Foster Pitts of Roanoke; six grandchildren; two brothers, D. B. Denny of Fayette and James Denny of San Francisco; and four sisters, Mrs. Estes sof St. Louis, Mrs. Todd Genty of Columbia, Mrs. George Althouse of Marshall and Mrs. Kate Payne of Muskogee, Okla.
The body will arrive in Moberly at 11 o'clock tonight and will be taken directly to Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Roanoke Baptist church by Dr. W. I Featherston of Missouri Valley College, Marshall. Burial will be in Roanoke.
