GEORGE F. PITTS
George F. Pitts, 99, formerly of Armstrong, died Tuesday at the Moberly Caring Center in Moberly. He was born July 26, 1897 in Roanoke, MO to Winston and Zannie Denny Pitts.
Mr. Pitts was married to Nellie Tevis on Jan. 29, 1920, and she died on May 29, 1970. He was a rural mail carrier for 27 years until he retired in 1967, and he was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. He served in the armed forces during World War I.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, George and Jane Pitts of Moberly and three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Joe Mosby of Kansas City; Martha and Harold Dunivent of Moberly and Zannie and Stan Bowlin of Weatherford, TX. Ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, at 2 p.m. at the Ralph A. Carr Funeral Chapel with visitation from 1 p.m. to time of service. Burial will follow in the Roanoke Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Roanoke Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carr Funeral Home.
